Forfeit Savior Rule

NAPA of Central Missouri Billiard League

I know I covered it in the last blog but I wanted to make some different points.  The Forfeit Savior Rule states that if Team A does not have enough players to play and Team B does, then Team B can choose one player from Team A that is present to play twice as long as it does not go over the team handicap.  Team B can also choose someone to play twice.  This is designed to reduce the number of forfeits in a season.  Overall it is a good rule but, as in all rules, there are potential areas of abuse.  If most of the team is gone and the only person available is one that Team A wants to play, defeats the purpose of Team B choosing the player.  Also Team B may not know there will be a Forfeit Savior required so some of their players may have left as well reducing their options.  Another area is some players may be chosen a number of times and therefore have more matches than other players toward MVP.  NAPA provides solutions for this.  You can choose to not include Forfeit Savior matches in the MVP standings.  You can also include not to have forfeits at all count toward MVP standings.  The Forfeit Savior Rule is OPTIONAL and each league should vote on it.  If the league does not choose to do the Forfeit Savior rule they must decide, as always, how to handle the payment of forfeits.
